Scoil Mhuire Fatima is a 12 teacher school situated in the heritage village of Timahoe approx 12km from Portlaoise. Timahoe is a village steeped in ancient history with a monastery founded by St. Mochua in the 7th century and a complete round tower, noted to be unique in round tower architecture.
Timahoe National School was originally located in St. Brigid's Hall in the centre of the village. The school in it's present location was completed in 1959. Extensions were added in the 90's, the 00's and most recently in 2013.
The school is a Catholic Primary school, which caters for girls and boys from Junior Infants to Sixth class with two Early Intervention classes for pre-school children with a diagnosis of Autism.
Scoil Mhuire Fatima operates under the patronage of the Bishop of Kildare and Leighlin. The school is managed by a Board of Management, funded by the Dept. of Education and Skills (DES), and operates within the guidelines and regulations set down by that Department.
The school recognises the central role of the family as the primary educator of the child.
The school aims to provide the best possible environment to cater for the cultural, educational, moral, physical, religious, social, linguistic and spiritual values and traditions of all its students, with the resources available to us. The focus of the school philosophy is the education of the whole child to reach his/her full potential.
We respect the dignity and uniqueness of each person.
Working together as a school community, the Board of Management, Principal, staff, parents and pupils will strive to provide an environment, which will allow all students to develop to their maximum potential and fulfil their role in society.
